As you probably don’t know me, here’s a whole page to enlighten you. I’m a 21 year old student from North West London, studying History at the University of Nottingham. I am of Hong Kong Chinese ethnicity, and hence my study of History is clearly the first step before a law conversion course. Well, this is how my family see it anyway. I’d rather become involved in the media industry myself, and only considered Law as a means to becoming a lawyer for Amnesty International — my dream job.

My greatest interest is in Chinese history, a subject I am unable to study at university as a module on my degree. However, I decided to write my mini-dissertation in second year about the historiography surrounding Chairman Mao’s role in the Cultural Revolution and received a first-class mark. I will continue with my study in Chinese history by writing my final year dissertation on the Opium War from a British perspective.

I enjoy listening to a huge variety of music, reading modern and classic novels and watching trashy mind-numbing television shows. Despite my poor student status, I also enjoy eating out and have become a mild ‘foodie’ after working at Nobu London over the summer and eating at a few award-winning restaurants since. However, I’m still just as happy to spend a little less and eat out at Nando’s or Chiquitos or even cook myself beans on toast at home.

I have been designing and maintaining websites since the age of around 13, and have therefore picked up a geekier knowledge of the web and computers that most girls my age will ever encounter. However, I am too poor to afford fancy software and hardware, so I try to get by with what I can afford. Coding and design is done on a Dell Studio 15 laptop, using Intype and Adobe Photoshop CS3, and photographs are taken on digital cameras usually worth less than £100. I do have one luxury — I am the proud owner of a HTC Desire, and am slowly persuading more and more people to switch to Android.

What most people know me as, however, is as someone with strong political views. I am a member of the Labour Party, find Question Time and the House of Commons Live endlessly entertaining, and frequently take part in heated political debates with friends. However, my participation within the party has been hindered by work and university, and thus, my new year’s resolution for 2011 is to take more active roles in the Hendon Labour Party, Nottingham Labour Students and the rise against tuition fees so that I can truly say that I am trying to make a difference. My favourite newspaper is The Guardian, and as part of the educated population, I have a natural hate for the Daily Mail.

Lastly, why City Headache? Well, it’s a song by Scott Matthews, one of my favourite artists and my life revolves around two big cities: London and Nottingham, and the even-busier country of Hong Kong, so I thought it was pretty relevant.
